I read Project Hail Mary back in 2024. So my memory was a bit foggy. I wanted to read the movie description to revise some things. Like the main character’s name? I mean, how can you forget that, if you really liked the book? That’s beyond me. But I didn’t search it up. I didn’t watch the trailer. I didn’t read any reddit posts on it.
So, today, on Sunday, my husband and I went to the cinema to watch Project Hail Mary. It was a really hot day today. My makeup was quite literally melting. I wanted to keep my face in front of the blasting AC at all times.
Luckily, we purchased the tickets 2 days earlier ( thank GOD because the line was never ending. I don’t have the patience for that)
Anyways, the movie was around 3:30 pm, so we left the house at 3 pm. I know you’re thinking if it was that hot, why didn’t I go in the evening? Because I want to be back before dark. Any and all plans need to be in the daytime (Grandma alert).
I thought we wouldn’t make it in time for the movie since we also had to stand in line for popcorn, hot dogs, and soda.
But we did. Thankfully.
As soon as I got out of the car, the heat made my glasses fog up. I HATE that. Now, I was struggling to clean my glasses and also look around with blurry vision (there were stairs, too). And we had to run. I’m so glad I didn’t run into someone or fall.
We went for the snacks counter and 😭😭
There was a huge line.
We had 7 minutes until the movie started.
Don’t people already know what they want? Like don’t you guys rehearse your order beforehand? People were going back and forth being like do we want this or that? Please get something QUICK 😭
3:20 pm and we had 4 people in front of us. A couple and 2 girls. The couple looked like they were here on a first date. They looked nervous. The guy was wearing dress pants and a shirt? He was also fidgeting a lot. The girl was confident. Blow dried hair, nice makeup. They took the longest. Like??? By the time they were done, I was emotionally invested in their relationship.
We got popcorn, hotdogs and sodas. I can’t decide between salty or caramel popcorn so I always get a mixed one. My husband, on the other hand, always gets salty ones.
We hurried inside just as the opening credits were rolling in.
Does anyone feel embarrassed when they have to find their seat in the crowd? Even when the movie hasn’t started yet. Just me? Okay.
I loved the movie. I loved remembering everything (going ‘oh yeah yeah i remember this’). Especially Rocky. I cried when he decided to help Grace return to Earth and their little hug 🤚😭 (I remembered that I also cried when I read this part in the book). And when Rocky asked Grace to sleep in front of him so he could make sure he’s alive. It’s so adorable but also heartbreaking. The movie followed the book almost exactly. The little quirks and dry humour were spot on. It was so funny when Rocky was rolling around in his ball looking for this room. And the part where he shows how he eats 💀
I LOVED the visuals. The entire movie was beautiful. Amaze, amaze, amaze.
The crowd was mostly fine.
EXCEPT FOR THE 2 GIRLS beside me. My God. I genuinely wanted to pinch their mouths shut. During every heartfelt scene, they were AWWWINg pretty loudly. It’s like loud enough for people to hear 3 rows down. It wasn’t even THAT heartfelt. They laughed audibly (extremely) to each and every joke. Like?? I know some scenes were funny but they weren’t that funny.
I might sound like a hater (which I accept that I am the majority of the time), but please imagine this yourself. The entire room is silent. But 2 girls are sitting beside you being extremely performative. Nobody watches a movie gasping, awwing, and laughing loudly the ENTIRE time (won’t you feel emotionally drained? Unless the movie directors are aiming for that). But I didn’t say anything (except for looking at them with my head turned completely towards them once in a while. It didn’t work)
It was freezing there. Every time we decide to go to the cinema, I always mentally tell myself to pack a light shawl. And I always forget. So I was drinking cold soda with freezing hands. Man, I was praying I don’t need the restroom because my social anxiety simply can not. I promise I’m 26 years old. Not 66.
Anyways the movie was really good. I went without watching any trailer or any reddit posts. Just vibes. And I wasn’t disappointed.
We left around 5:30pm and it was still hot outside 😭. I just wanted to go home. My head was hurting from all the noise. Maybe I’m turning into a grandma. No noise, in bed by 8pm thing, you know?
Once we came home, guess what I did? Yes, I had my evening tea in this blazing weather. Even the evenings are hot. That cured my headache. I’m not leaving my tea in any weather.
